Dear Alumni, Students, Staff and Supporters of HKU,

On March 16, 1910, the foundation stone laying ceremony was held, and in 1912, the first class of students was inaugurated. The University of Hong Kong, the first in the city, was born.

Over the past century, I have been standing with generations of students and University members, sharing their laughter and tears, immersing in speeches of great minds, and providing a haven during times of war. I have also witnessed the growth of the University and the development of our vibrant city, Hong Kong.

Time has taken its toll. The stone steps and floor tiles that once carried your footsteps, the bricks and classrooms that endured the trials of war, are now urgently in need of restoration and rejuvenation to serve future generations of the University, and indeed, Hong Kong.

You have worked hard to contribute to Hong Kong, and make the world a better place for future. Now, I cordially invite you to extend your care for me — support the “HKU Heritage – Rejuvenation of Main Building" campaign.

Let us honour our shared memories and join hands to inspire future generations.

Together, we can ensure that our legacy endures and continues to inspire.

  Gratefully yours,

Main Building

HKU HERITAGE -- Rejuvenation of Main Building

The Main Building, the first structure of the University of Hong Kong, is a symbol of the beginning of university education in Hong Kong. It carries shared memories, history and culture of University members, and the community. It is urgently in need of restoration and rejuvenation. You are cordially invited to support the campaign — Donate to HKU Heritage Fund.
